Simmondsin (jojoba oil)

Jojoba oil has been used for years in cosmetic preparations but this particular extract has special effects.  This special herbal extract has potential for powerful appetite suppression effects.  Deceased food intake can be a key to fat and weight loss and this ingredient has potential to be one of the most powerful appetite suppressors around. In fact, one of the main ways that ephedrine/caffeine combinations seem to boost weight/fat loss is through appetite suppression. In the 1990s, Belgian researcher Marnix Cokelaere discovered that simmondsin was acting as a hunger satiety ingredient. This allowed him to reinterpret earlier experiments with mice and cattle fed diets supplemented with jojoba meal. This ingredient satisfied the animals' hunger, causing the decline in feed intake.  In fact, many animal studies show the powerful appetite suppression effects of this ingredient.  Food intake was decreased significantly in many experiments with animals.  In one study published in the British Journal of Nutrition, researchers verified a significant reduction in food intake in the simmondsin group of rats.  This effect was even greater in obese rats.   Simmondsin seems to work by allowing the body to stay full longer and thus control satiety. Simmondsin is thought to either directly stimulate CCK (Cholecystokinin), a hormone that helps control food intake and seems to slow gastric motility, release or bind to the same receptors as CCK.  The animal studies have used fairly high doses.   Some studies suggest that it might lower thyroid hormone which would in turn lower metabolism—not good. There is a big “if” in humans but this ingredient does have potential and future human studies will be done to see if it as efficacious in humans as it is in animals.  Stay tuned!
