Theobromine


This natural compound is found in cocoa and chocolate and is a member of the methylxanthine family (similar to caffeine) but is a very mild stimulant that can have an energizing effect on the body. It may also enhance metabolic rate and improve mental feeling of well being (as many of us chocolate lovers have experienced before). Theobromine is a mild diuretic (increases urine production) and relaxes the smooth muscles of the bronchi in the lungs. Water retention can make you look bloated and “feel fat”. Anyone involved in a weight loss program should consider using theobromine as part of a good nutrition and fitness program. Another good thing is that very few side effects have been reported with theobromine ingestion. Recommended dosage is 400 mg taken 2-3 times daily.
